I'm fully aware that I am *possibly* the worst blogger to exist on the face of the internet. I've hinted at this in a few other posts (trust me, they aren't that many...), but I've fallen out of love with blogging at the moment. This is not to say that I still don't enjoying creating content and pursuing creative realms, but the act of being an influencer and always being "on" has really taken a toll on me. I like to believe that I'll come back to blogging more reguarly, but I'm taking it in piecemeal.

Last week, I took a much needed social media detox and simply deleted the apps from my phone. During that break, I realized that I do enjoy certain aspects of social media and the authentic content that certain individuals put out into the world. However, I came away knowing that I used to spend way too much time concerned with other's lives and the image they put out in the world than I should have been. In fact, I have been practicing the technique of consuming "mindful media".

For me, that means following people that promote positivity or provide something that I want to learn about and explore, and unfollowing accounts that don't do anything for me. It is also paying attention to what you consume apart from social media; think about podcasts, television shows, etc. I am much more chill with shows and movies though.... watching Baywatch was one of the best decisions I've made in awhile. Ha.

To continue, another reason that I decided to refocus my energy away from social media and into the real world, is that I want to truly live in the moment. That my friends, is still a work in progress and probably will continue to be. I'm slowly finding ways to be present. Spending less time on Instagram is one way. I'm also training for a half-marathon and have found running to be mediative to me. Just me, the music, and my two feet. Speaking of music, I've been on somewhat of a "music exploration", thanks to Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Times. Music.is.just.so.cool.

I can say it everyday, life is too short. There is no reason to not live your best life and do it the way you desire. Oh I know. It sounds so incredibly cheesy and cliche. However, as I've learned over the past several months, all of this takes time. So, start today or tomorrow. Just get out there and do what you love. Simply start.

I'm Back

Well, well, well.

Fancy seeing you around here, as it’s been quite some time. I finished my final exams last week, so I’m pleased to announce that I’m d-o-n-e with junior year. If you talk to any other person who has gone through this treacherous year, they will firmly agree that it’s akin to Dante’s 9th Circle of Hell. The absolute worst. It’s only recently hit me that I’m going to be a senior come September, but let’s not rush life. We have a full summer ahead before we even have the to cross the bridge to the land of stress, college, and my final year of high school.

During those crazy weeks of finals, I made an executive decision to take some time off from blogging. The main reason I did this was because I simply had zero time to focus on anything else other than school. The other reason, which I think is crucial to bring up, is that I wasn’t feeling inspired or motivated to blog. I know this could be seen as some ~saucy~ news to both readers and fellow people of the interweb, but yes, sometimes I just don’t want to post. After (almost) five year of blogging, I’ve realized that it’s okay to not be “on” all the time. A break is exactly what the digi-doctor ordered.

So, at this point, you may ask… “Sloane, what’s next?”

And to that my friend, the answer is that some changes will be aflutter around here this summer. In the near future, STSS will begin the process of changing from a blog to an online portfolio with a blog component.

Now, now, I don’t want you to think this is just for the sake of college applications or because I’m lazy. This is a decision I’ve been planning for awhile because as I grow and change, I feel like my own digital space should reflect that growth.

Continuing on, in the next month or so, you will witness some design changes being born. To be honest, I’m not exactly sure if these changes will be happening overnight or… Forever and always winging it. Additionally, I have a plethora of digital back-logged posts from the past few months that deserve a spot in the online universe. Keep your eyes peeled for those.

Now that the we have the nitty-gritty out in the open, time to dig into the goof stuff. What else is in store for this summer? I’ll be dancing the day away at Gov Ball on Saturday, followed by some time out in Montauk for quality surf and sun. No doubt that you’ll see me in the great Ocean State. Both Texas and California are on the horizon in July, so I’ll see you there. Finally, thank you for sticking with me this year. I’m completely aware that content has been up and down and back up, but I’m back.

Until next time, folks. Signing off.

The Future Is [ ]

It is challenging to put yesterday's historical and magical day into coherent sentences, as the energy was indescribable and unforgettable. Perhaps making it one of the top five moments in my life. President Trump believes that we are a divided country, but I think anyone who was out marching or participating yesterday (across the 600+ cities, and 30+ countries) would care to disagree. I witnessed a powerful and strong union of individuals. Individuals who are of a different race, gender, religion, nationality, but these individuals were standing together. Truth be told, I have never felt more proud to call myself both an American and a woman than I did yesterday. I hope that this march, and the many to come, is a wake-up call to our government, representatives, and world leaders saying that we are here and we are not going away.

On a slightly more personal note, this past election has lit a flame within me. A flame that continues to burn brighter and stronger every day. It has made me recognize that my voice holds power, and that power must be used. Each and every one of us holds that power. Use your voice to spread positive messages of love, not hate. Continue to educate yourself (and others) about issues that concern our fellow citizens, our planet, and our communities. Support those around you. Never stop fighting and working for what you believe. And lastly, my fellow ladies, never underestimate yourself and never forget that you, yes you, can change the world.

Back in November, we asked ourselves the question, "where do we go from here?", and I think after yesterday, we will are going to be pretty damn well. January 21st, 2017 has come and gone, but it is only the beginning of something greater.

Let's get ready and let's get to work.

Forward | 2016 Wrap-Up

I learned

+ That self-love and self-trust come before anything else. If you are unable to love yourself, you cannot give your own love to anyone else fully and authentically. Trusting your mind and heart is challenging and failures are bound to happen, but realizing that your own trust is more important than others is pretty empowering.

+ Be grateful for the supportive people in your life and never feel guilty or bad for asking for help. Vulernablilty isn't weak.

+ Your body is a temple. Take care of it. Eat well and work out often. But, also take care of your mind and soul. Treat others well, educate yourself, and grow. Mental health is irreplaceable.

+ Realize that you have many soulmates. Not every single one of them is romantically related, but a deep connection with certain people happens for a reason. And some of these people will fall out of your life, but understand and appreciate what they bring to you when they are present.

+ Spend time alone. Enjoy your own company, whether it is reading, watching a movie, listening to music, or just reflecting.

+ Get outside more. Run. Walk. Bike. Sit. Pause and watch the sunset. Take the headphones out and listen to nature's own soundtrack. Remember the little moments because in the end, they will overpower the big ones.
