Current and Elliott

One & Only

Wearing: Madewell denim jacket, Current & Elliott striped tee, Zara skirt (old), Vans sneakers

As I've found myself reaching for my denim jacket more than ever, it has made me question what the true basics in my wardrobe are. You often here people blab on and on about how a black blazer is such a style staple and all that nonsense. Don't get me wrong, I happen to love a great blazer moment- but I don't remember the last time I happened to choose a blazer over denim or the edgier version, leather.

Perhaps like my stripes and sneakers, I've narrowed down the few essentials that in moments of sartorial distress (which happen more than one would think), I reach for.

So here is to the denim jacket, my current one & only. (as I am lacking in the lurve department so it only makes sense that a jacket would replace that hole in my heart). Hey, you can't win 'em all.

On the Wild Side

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!! I haven't been this excited for a pair of shoes since these Lanvin snakeskin loafers. Um, sensing a cohesive theme of jungle does designer here.

As I am not one to reach for animal print at first glance- except for a leopard cardigan circa 2006... wore the life out of the poor sweater. Yet I can handle the wild world of animal print in small doses- similar to my liking of pop music, for instance.

Around my birthday, I bookmarked these Miu Miu booties (on sale now) that are accompanied by a hefty price tag and for this chick, "All I see is $$$", isn't the correct way to describe my bank account (meh blame the holidays). Instead, I found these Rachel Zoe pair that do the trick just as well. You know that you've aced an animal print piece when The Real Housewives' wardrobes isn't the first thing you think of. Plus, at last another pair of booties that is not black. Is my black cat persona finally changing into a leopard? Not really sure how I feel about that.

Alas, don't forget the golden rule about animal prints: One. At. A. Time.

Please. For everyone's eyes and sanity (including your own).

My sneaker collection was in need of major refreshing and what better than the number one kick on the list- Stan?! In a sea of Converse and Supergas,

Stan

is here to shake things up. Here's how I'll be sporting my latest pair once they make their way to me- silk shorts and a denim button down. A little heavy metal is also in need, no doubt.

It took me way too long to hop on the Stan Smith bandwagon. I've been eyeing the pair forever and finally are bringing them into my sneakerhead life. Because honestly, do I ever wear heels anymore?

This past weekend, it was great to feel the warm sunshine on my face and for the temperatures to excel 50*. Winter has felt like a massive black hole of polar vortexes and countless feet of snow. Receiving a small taste of Spring boosted my mood (especially being near the ocean this past weekend). Being able to step outside in a blazer and jeans was the best feeling ever. These boyfriend jeans are the closest my legs have been exposed to air the past four months and I cannot wait to wear them more in the Spring. Along with a simple look of jeans and a blazer, a silk scarf spices things up a little. I am not a big scarf person but I love the un-expected twist of wearing it "western style".  Here is to a vibrant Spring ahead... don't worry,

it is coming

Stripes/Stripes

For a causal weekend look, I always go for stripes. They are super easy when worn with simple shorts or jeans. The first look is more sporty; I love wearing my hair down with a hat (it also helps with a bad hair day!) A.L.C. sweaters are a perfect update to the classic sweater. They have an uneven hem and are slightly cropped. The other look is more simple and classic with boyfriend jeans and nude sandals. To accessorize, I have been wearing my KJP anchor bracelet a ton- especially with stripes. The pop of pink and navy is perfect when I am feeling classic and preppy. This weekend I am in Newport, RI visiting my brother and celebrating Mother's Day. Hope you all have a fun weekend!

Lately, I have been adding a lot of neon to my closet! I love mixing the colors into my outfit, then balancing it out with neutrals. For a dash of color, shoes are the best choice. I've been wearing my Tieks ballet flats a lot and they are surprisingly very versatile (see my last post with them here). Neon colors are great as well because they are also ideal for making any outfit more bold and vibrant.
